Student Exchange Organization

An exchange organization handles all of the practical details of your year. It matches you up with a host family, helps you get your visa and insurance, and most of the time arranges your travel.

Exchange student organization

When you apply with an organization, you will be asked to fill out a lot of different forms. You will also attend an interview with a representative from that organization. One question to expect, ‘Why do you want to become an exchange student?”

A potential host family will see the general information you have given about yourself – your age, interests, family members, etc. They will also read a letter that you have written. This is what they judge you on and it’s important to tell the truth and to present yourself as honestly as possible! It can lead to big problems later if your host family discovers you have lied on your application!

Student Application

Most organizations are similar. They may choose to market themselves (and you!) differently, but essentially they all offer the same services. You should research what the different organizations have to offer and how much they cost. Some place you with just one family and others with several families. Some also offer voluntary preparation camps. These can be both fun and educational and a good transition period before arriving in your new town and meeting your host family.

Regrettably I don’t have any information specific about India. But when you go to USA it is very common for an Exchange Program to have a “preperation camp”. It’s usually from 2 days to one week and it is all about getting comfortable. It’s SUPER fun and you meet so many students that are in the same situation as you. The camp make you ready to what expect from your year as an exchange student. I loved my camp!

Hey Shagun!

If you apply for an exchange from rotary, im sure your Rotary club would have a small orientation to prepare you for the BIG year!
I went to Brazil on an exchange, last year, and UNDOUBTEDLY, i had the best year. Well, dont mean to scare you, but i also had some very tough times! Its upto you to decide how the year was, it just makes you more positive.
Good Luck if you wish to go on an exchange!
