On this page we will post stories from exchange students. The stories will be about a lot of different things that exchange students have experienced during their years arbroad. All exchange students has special moments of their exchange years that they will never forget and we want to collect stories of those special moments on this page.


Emily Konrath Rimbo - Sweden (2007 -08)
Hey; my name is Emily Konrath and I am from Canada. I am an exchange student in Sweden doing my last year of high school even though I graduated back in Canada. I have only been here almost 2 months, but I think I have seen so much of this great country. There is a lot of similarities with Canada but there is also so many differences. In the beginning it was really hard for me to understand the language since I didn't know any Swedish, but the longer I am here the more and more I am understanding. Swedes are also quite different than Canadians generally. In Canada I think it is typical to carry a conversation on with a cashier at the grocery store or someone you sit by on the bus. But in Sweden the people are more reserved and to themselves. I think I am an outgoing person and enjoy meeting new people, so at first it was so hard for me not to talk to the people I am standing with. The food here in Sweden is pretty similar, not too much to get used to. Except here I find they use a lot of sauces with their food. I am not used to that, but it isn't anything major. Sweden also has a lot of North American music and tv shows so it is a lot like home. I don't find it hard to be here since North America is very present in Sweden. I really love Sweden and it's going to be so hard leaving next July.
